When will I see results?

Soon! You can expect to see visible results and improvements after 4-6 weeks of using our Acne Skincare Kit*. After using the treatment for 6-8 weeks, you should see a significant reduction in acne and clearer, brighter skin.*

In fact, most acne treatments, not just ours, require at least 4 weeks and up to 8 weeks of use to see results. Here's why: Every skin cell, on average, turns every 28-40 days. However, acne-prone skin cells may take longer to repair and regenerate.

The bottom line? If it's been a couple weeks and you haven’t noticed improvements yet, that's normal! *Results based on our independent, IRB-approved clinical trials. Individual results may vary.

What is a typical timeline for results? What if my acne gets worse at the beginning?

Great question. We created a week-by-week timeline, based on typical patient results, to help you understand the journey to clear skin and track your progress every step of the way.

<insert clear skin graphic>

What to do if your acne gets worse at the beginning? First things first — don't panic. It's not uncommon for acne to flare at the beginning of a new treatment. While most users in our clinical trial showed improvements as early as 2 weeks, it's likely that your skin is going through the "purge" part of the process. It's so common when beginning acne treatments, there's even a name for it.

The backstory: As the acne-treating ingredients begin to increase exfoliation, your skin begins to "detox" to make way for fresh and healthy skin cells. During this phase, it's normal to experience a breakout or two. The good news? This process is temporary and should improve after 3 - 4 weeks as you continue to regularly apply our products.

*Disclaimer: As everyone’s skin responds on a different timeline, individual results will vary. This guide is based on typical patient results – some may achieve results earlier, and some may take longer.

Do your products work for all skin types? What types of acne does KitavaMD treat?

Yes! Our formulas are proven safe, effective and designed for oily, dry, normal, sensitive, combination and acne-prone skin types. Our Acne Skincare Kit is proven effective to treat those with mild to moderate inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. This ranges from periodic, hormonally triggered blemishes, common pimples and pustules to whiteheads and blackheads.

Our 3-step treatment can also help those with mild to moderate mixed acne types, which can include a combination of small to medium inflammatory pimples or pustules and whiteheads and blackheads. For those with more advanced acne conditions, including prominent cysts and nodules (painful large bumps), it may be best to see a board-certified dermatologist for treatment. While our products may offer improvements, this type of acne is generally classified as moderate to severe inflammatory or moderate to severe nodulocystic acne and is more difficult to treat as it can cause scarring if not managed properly."

I don't have acne-prone skin, will KitavaMD help with blackheads and clogged pores?

Absolutely! KitavaMD is formulated with all skin types in mind. Our Acne Cleansing Gel is powerful enough to help acne-prone skin yet gentle enough for most skin types to use as a twice-daily face wash. As you lather the rich gel, refreshing Willow Bark Extract and Tea Tree Oil help to draw out dirt, oil and dissolve clogged pores. Your skin will be clearer, brighter and noticeably more soothed with continued use.

Does KitavaMD help reduce the appearance of dark spots? Do your products treat acne scarring?

Yes, the KitavaMD Acne Skincare Kit is formulated with potent ingredients, such as Willow Bark Extract, Vitamin C and Licorice Extract, that can help brighten the appearance of dark spots left behind from blemishes. These unwanted dark spots are referred to as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. While hyperpigmentation is not technically a form of acne scarring, some people think of them that way.

For those with deeper acne scarring, such as ice pick scars, rolling scars or box car scars as well as those with severe hyperpigmentation, we recommend seeing your local board-certified dermatologist to discuss stronger treatment options.

Are your products safe for sensitive skin? What should I do if I experience irritation?

Yes! KitavaMD products are safe and effective for sensitive skin types.  As mild irritation and dryness are possible when starting a new skincare regimen, it may be best for those more prone to dryness and sensitivity to use our treatment once daily and then increase to twice daily as tolerated.

For those experiencing dryness or irritation, this is typically a temporary reaction that will often subside after about 4 weeks of use as your skin gets used to the products. If needed, try a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer to help manage irritation.

Please note: Any skin care product, including those that are mild and designed for sensitive skin types, has a small risk of causing persistent irritation and rarely, allergic reactions. If you are experiencing an allergic reaction or experiencing severe persistent irritation, we recommend you discontinue use of the products right away and consult with your personal health care provider.

If I have oily-prone skin, can I still use the Smoothing Facial Cream?

Great question. You may be suprised the answer is yes! In many cases with oily skin types, most oil is found on the skin's surface while the layer underneath is actually quite dry.  This imbalance can cause your skin to overproduce oil, as a defense mechanism to help balance out the loss of moisture, and subsequently can clog pores. Although it may sound counterintuitive, using oil on oily skin can actually be beneficial! However, not all oils should be used on oily skin. Certain ingredients such as pure Niacinamide as well as natural, non-comedogenic oils found in our products, can actually help soothe, balance oil levels and improve the appearance of oily and break-out prone skin.

How does the KitavaMD Acne Skincare Kit work?

The Kitava MD Acne Skincare Kit is a proven 3-step system designed to work together to reduce acne and improve the appearance of skin within 45 days of twice-daily use. Results could appear as early as 2 weeks or take up to 8 weeks. The 3-step system includes:

Our twice-daily Acne Cleansing Gel provides a deep exfoliation to reduce acne bumps and dissolve clogged pores

After a deep cleanse, our Smoothing Facial Cream immediately restores and protects your skin, calming redness and smoothing skin tone

For lingering breakouts, our Tea Tree Spot Treatment is specifically-formulated to visibly reduce the appearance of blemishes.

What is your return policy?

We believe in happy customers. Therefore, we handle returns on a one-on-one basis, with your satisfaction at the forefront of our policy. We stand behind the quality and efficacy of our products and, if for any reason you are not satisfied, we will happily offer a refund to the tender with which your items were purchased. Returns can only be extended to the original purchaser and may not be transferred.

I'm pregnant, can I use KitavaMD products? What about nursing mothers?

While our ingredients are generally considered safe, we have not explicity tested our products on pregnant or nursing mothers.

We recommend you discuss use of KitavaMD, and all other skincare products you may be using, with your physician or obstetrician prior to continuing or beginning use of a treatment.

What age are KitavaMD products suitable for? Will your products help aging skin?

Age Ranges: Our Acne Skincare Kit was initially developed and formulated for teens, ages 13-18 and adults, ages 18-35 as acne can be more common in those age groups. However, adults of all ages can benefit from using our products. For prepubescent children, we recommend consulting with your child's healthcare provider prior to starting KitavaMD or any acne skincare treatment.

Aging Skin: Our products are formulated with Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant and brightening agent that can help give skin a firmer look and can help prevent premature aging. Willow Bark Extract, another key ingredient in our formula, can also be helpful for cleansing aging skin as it acts as a gentle exfoliant.

Do I need to use all 3 products in the Acne Skincare Kit to get results?

The short answer, yes. We recommend it! The reason? We designed our 3-step system to work together as a complete treatment to effectively fight acne and clear skin. As each step in the system helps with certain conditions in the skin healing process, we recommend using all three products together to achieve the best possible results. Additionally, participants in our clinical trials used all three products together continously for eight weeks and achieved maximum results. While we believe each product can be effective on their own, you may not see the same type of results or improvements if you choose to use one of the products separately in place of the 3-step system.

Can I use other skincare products while using KitavaMD?

Yes. Gentle skincare products such as moisturizers, non-comedogenic makeup, gentle cleansers and sunscreens are likely fine to use while using the KitavaMD Acne Skincare Kit.

We do not suggest using any products unless directed by your physician, in combination with our Acne Skincare Kit that can cause irritation or dryness. Examples of these products include but are not limited to: topical retinoids, glycolic acid, lactic acid, vitamin C, exfoliants and astringents. It's always best to consult your physician or healthcare provider with any specific questions regarding product usage.

Do your products help with rosacea?

Our products are gentle and safe for all skin types, including those with rosacea, sensitive skin, and other concerns. In addition to treating acne, our products are formulated with plant-derived ingredients that should help with the appearance of redness; however, rosacea was not specifically studied during our clinical trial, so it is best to discuss any specific questions with your Board-Certified Dermatologist.

Are KitavaMD formulas cruelty-free?

Yes, we are 100% cruelty-free. We do not test on animals and are certified by Leaping Bunny.
